Our cheerful guide, William, was waiting with an adventure (not time to rest for these travelers). He explained that many guides take visitors to touristy restaurants, but he can show us local food if we like. Excitedly we all agreed, tired of the tourist food we consistently ate in Beijing. He took us to a rice noodle place, which was authentic and delicious. I have to say, it was my favorite meal so far.
We headed to elephant hill for a short, leisurely walk around a hill (surprise!) and beautiful canal. At the vinegary smelling cave winery (I think our guide said it was 600 years old), Anna spotted an elephant of a spider, and I watched as all the kids slowly backed 100 feet away. Mr. Crabtree and Malakai tasted some of the fried river crabs offered off a dock side boat. One loved them, one not so much...
Our hotel here has a fantastic pool that the kids are currently enjoying. The rooms are very brothel-esque, with lovely brocade wallpaper and red velvet curtains.
We are headed to dinner soon, which our host promises will be authentic. Afterward a stroll through the night market, where the kids will buy fans, white rabbits, and Pringles (assuming their shopping habits don't change)😉. It seems everyone is thriving and delighted. I'm truly impressed by the kids' travel stamina and grit. They are an adorable reminder for us adults to enjoy the moments and each other.
