After a relaxing pedi cab ride through the back alleys of Beijing, we strolled to ice cream and through a lovely city park. A boy rollerblades with his grandmother, little girls in matching outfits climb a statue, couples hold hands on their post dinner walk, and yet another Chinese woman stops to stare at us. She leans against the pillar, a foot from us, watching like we are the Silverman in Pioneer Square. Sadly, no tips for us.
Later, at our super swanky dinner, waiters thoroughly enjoy our butchering of the Chinese language, laughing and repeating our mispronounced "thank you."
Finishing up the evening at an acrobatic show (which had Delaney on the edge of her seat for an hour), a man sits behind Bayla, mouth open and leans in for a good, long stare. We were clearly more exciting than the show.
Anna is the most popular, with her blue eyes, blonde hair, and Amazonian height. All the kids are getting used to their celebrity, though, and sampling the double-edged sword that is fame.
Tomorrow we leave this stinky, but enticing city for the rolling hills and countryside of Guilin. Spirits are high, stomachs are in good order, and laughs abound.
